Hofstra Law School is now offering need- and merit-based scholarships for international students in our Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree programs.
Located in the greater New York City region, Hofstra Law School’s mission is to prepare passionate students to make an impact in their communities and beyond. Accredited by the American Bar Association and Bar Council of India, Hofstra is a proud member of the International Association of Law Schools. We offer both full-time and part-time J.D. programs as well as LL.M. programs in American Legal Studies (for foreign law graduates) and Family Law.
The J.D. program takes full-time students three years to complete and is appropriate for international students who have not completed a first law degree in their home country. The requirements include completing fundamental courses in Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure, Property,
Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Professional Responsibility. Students also take a first year course on Transnational Law, a unique offering that promotes an understanding of the relationships between U.S. law and international business, legal, social and political issues.
Hofstra Law School designed the American Legal Studies LL.M. program for lawyers trained outside of the United States, and who wish to either practice law in the United States or return to their home countries. Hofstra’s nine-month, full-time LL.M. program trains students to handle the increasing internationalization of legal practice and navigate transactions involving the laws of multiple nations. This program may also qualify students to sit for the New York bar examination and become licensed attorneys.
International students in our J.D. and LL.M. programs are fully integrated members of the Law School community. Candidates may select from over 200 courses and join any of our 40 student organizations. These programs have attracted students from over 40 foreign countries.
