The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme cultivates the leaders of tomorrow from transition and emerging economies; in its first phase the Programme focuses on Europe’s wider neighbourhood including Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa. It provides outstanding university graduates and young professionals from these regions with the opportunity to:
" Pursue graduate studies at the University of Oxford; and
" Participate in a comprehensive programme of leadership development, long-term mentoring and networking.
The objective is to give the most promising young people from regions which offer limited opportunities for academic scholarship and leadership training a chance to develop the knowledge, skills and international networks necessary to contribute optimally to public life in their countries and regions of origin – be it in the public or private sector- and to build lasting professional linkages across continents and across ethnic, cultural and religious divides. In line with this aim, the Programme also provides a limited number of scholarships for early to mid-career professionals in the public or third sectors from the US. This two-way bridge-building is intended to help the participants become professionally, socially and intellectually integrated into a global network they can draw on throughout their careers.
