A politician must be able to predict what will happen tomorrow, in one week, one month and in one year, and then explain why it didn’t happen.
Winston Churchill
I am sure that some representatives of the intelligentsia that flatter with the authorities and as well as some oppositionists that are not better than these ones don’t like expressions such as “getting out of situation”. I don’t like these kinds of expressions either. But in such cases when people become representatives of the elite by participating in “yes” or “no” constitutional referendum campaign only in order to meet tough people, eat and have few expensive drinks, I can’t stop myself from using these kinds of expressions. In this case I don’t feel pity already, because this is widespread. At least I don’t consider myself as a representative Armenian elite or national intelligentsia.
Actually by saying that people try to “wiggle out” we mean that they try to “justify themselves”. And in this case these representatives of elite have no problem to “wiggle out” of their position, because they have entered this field themselves and don’t want to go out of it any more. In fact people that are “in the top” by chance don’t have a problem to “wiggle out” either. So it turns out that this problem exists only for those people who sometimes are in this field, and sometimes are not. For example, Shavarsh Kocharyan, who prefers “German traditions” most among the European ones, is not able to wiggle out. Actually this problem is more difficult for him now than during young people’s shows in the 70s (Club for Smart and Happy people), where he could find answers to questions easily. Here we have nothing to do but to express our condolences to him and go on. Head of “United Labor Party” Gourgen Arsenyan has announced many times that as far as the article concerning dual citizenship exists in the Constitutional Draft they will not vote for it. At first he kept his promise. And then someone reminded him about the history of “Kentron” TV company, and that this is not the end and somehow he may lose it, he started to “wiggle out”. He wiggled out just like he did on April 12, 13 by thanking the police. If you remember he tried to wiggle out then but he couldn’t.
As for “Republican” party, we can’t understand the difference and contradiction of the texts they presented to the NA during the first and second readings. But as I noted above, those people “in the top” don’t have a problem to “wiggle out”. Whatever.
Of course the most phenomenal thing was how the “Armenian Revolutionary Federation” wiggled out. They have understood that monopolism is not such a bad thing. Do you know that during the 70 years of communism everything was monopolistic? Also, corruption was not so much developed as it is now (it may seem very strange to you but some foreign organizations came to this conclusion).
In regard to this, Geghamyan couldn’t “wriggle out” by joining the opposition. By the way he is one of the people of our political field that can “wiggle out” of everything easily by using “philosophical ideas”. But I can’t understand how he is going to “wiggle out” of the fact that he didn’t attend the opening meeting of Samvel Babayan’s political party “Alliance”.
In this connection “Rule of law” together with their leader are smart too. Till now they have been using only one way to “wiggle out” of difficult situations: “we are less than they are”. But experience shows that they can do this whenever they like. But the recent times Arthur Baghdasaryan thinks of not “wiggling out”, but thinks of “spinning up” (probably he started to do this only after his visits to Russia and to the USA, because there aren’t good specialists of “spinning up” in other countries). He understands that if he “spins up” well he will appear in a position that will forbid him to “wiggle out” any more.
As for our citizens, some “wiggle out” by leaving this country, others with the help of their relatives from abroad and some of them have to “get out of the tight”.
I don’t know where this expression comes from (get out of tight). I know that “wrestling” was always developed in Armenia as a kind of sport, maybe it originated from here. In Armenian wrestling one of the two sportsmen that is under the other one has to go out of the tight in order to get a chance to win. Now people are in this tight and they have to “get out of the tight”. But I am sure that people will be able to “get out of the tight”. Even more, I am sure they will win the competition. I think if some people couldn’t “wiggle out” by “mutual understanding”, they can’t do it now either.
