14/11/2005

Head of OSCE parliamentary commission E.Heysting had a meeting with head of the National Assembly Arthur Baghdasaryan on November 7-9 said that he was surprised that Armenia hadn’t invited observers to monitor the upcoming referendum. Heysting asked: “Do you think that you are a formed democratic country that doesn’t need observers?” A.Baghdasaryan was surprised and worried, because he couldn’t say that this was the decision of the RA president. “Anyway please note that I can send up to 500 observers. But we still hope that you will invite observers”, – he said. The congressman also met with some oppositionists. When talking about head of OSCE Yerevan office Vladimir Priakhin our oppositionists asked: “Who is that man?” Heysting was surprised and answered: “the representative of OSCE”. “We don’t know such a person here”, -said the oppositionists. Mr. Heysting was surprised again. “There is no such representative of OSCE in Armenia. V. Priakhian can only be an advisor of the president or the ambassador of Russia”, -said the Armenian politicians. Our oppositionists also claimed that there had been a lot of violations in Armenia but Priakhin had never considered those facts in a duly manner. The congressman answered: “I am not informed about the details, but you told news that made me worry”.
