Diversity march

03/06/2012

Today is the first day of the fifth convocation of the Armenian parliament. Many of the 131 MPs visited the Central electoral Commission to take their mandates. The others, as a rule, do not dare to take part in such public events and have taken their documents through their representatives. These people that did not show up to take their mandates may not visit the parliament for the first session, but in fact it does not change anything. The opposition representatives that agreed to take their mandates are organizing “local boycotting actions” for the purpose of keeping their image of opposition power. However, they are being a part of the same government with the RPA and PA representatives, which passed these elections through massive violations and abuse of written and unwritten rights, and also humiliating destinies of many people.

All the political powers that passed into the parliament agreed with the rules of the government, even though some opposition powers tried to criticize to keep their image. The composition of the new parliament is very diverse as many of them are not educated, some people are, many of them are famous in their neighborhoods, others – in their parties, and even some people are going to the parliament to have a chance to criticize the government.

Notwithstanding the behavior of these people, all of them have the ambition and desire to get a mandate. In other words, they are like each other and meanwhile very diverse, which is very common nowadays. The only thing we can hope for is that they do not forget the things that are connecting them and could tolerate each other. This is very important because now lack of tolerance is criticized everywhere – starting from the local level and ending up with the European Institutions and US department of State.
