The remodeling of the Hydro-Electric Power Station (HEPS) of Tatev which is inside the Vorostan cascade has been completed due to the 2.7 million grant provided by the European Union. Tatev’s HEPS is the one and only ladle shaped station of the post-Soviet country. The Vorostan cascade plays a major role when adjusting the frequency of the electric current flowing from Iran to Armenia and vice versa. During the winter, Armenia receives electricity from Iran and gives it back in the summer. In 2005, judging from the results of the past 10 months, the cascade has produced 821 million kilowatts/hour of energy, compared to last year’s 1250 billion kilowatts/hour.
