Constructive opposition

After the statement of the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan about not joining the ruling coalition the term “constructive opposition” returned to the Armenian political terminology. After the statement of Tsarukyan and the opinions voiced by various political parties the PAP was seemingly declared as a constructive opposition. By doing so, they excluded any possibility that anyone would think to consider them radical or unconstructive. The term constructive opposition has been very fashionable in our political field some time back. That was the time when there was radical opposition in Armenia and the government has been speaking about the need of having constructive opposition in order to declare those anti-state and anti-national parties. They have spoken so much about the constructive opposition that finally that type of opposition of self-formed. It is interesting that before the PAP Tigran Karapetyan has also declared himself constructive opposition. The problem here is the absence of political grounds for constructive opposition. After May 6, almost all the political parties stated that the elections proceeded with incredible violations. And the joint headquarters, which the PAP had also been a member of, stated that the election outcome doesn’t express the actual will of the people, which in fact implies the evaluation that the parliament is not legitimate. Also, after Tsarukyan’s statement, the process of making the PAP a hero has also begun. There are opinions that by doing so the PAP has proved its principality and thus maintains its own course. These opinions would be truthful if the PAP had made this statement on May 7 or May 8. But the PAP states this after 18 days of negotiating with the RPA. It is evident that the issue is being discussed in a completely different platform now. Perhaps the PAP has not received what it really strived for while negotiating with the RPA. In fact, if this is really the case than perhaps instead of becoming a constructive opposition the PAP may become a structural opposition.
