Era of minors

On May 6, Armenia underwent unique elections in its history. It was unique since 1996. The Armenian authorities were able to falsify the elections almost ideally, to a prefect degree. Even the most democratic governments wouldn’t expect such a soft and complimenting evaluation on part of the international observers. The government was able to provide that having been so far from democracy. The Armenian government was able to rig the votes so professionally that it could be compared to the unnoticed stealing of the most professional thief. The government was able to steal the votes of the society so smoothly and noiselessly that even the international court of Hague wouldn’t be able to do so. The government stole the votes of the people in their souls. They choked the concept of elections in the nest of the mentality of the people and in their value system. The government bought everything – the votes and morality and it also allowed the others buy as many votes as they needed. It allowed some people to buy votes directly and others through pressure on voters and imitation. But the whole nuance of the situation is that the government has done this jointly with everyone – with the most radical and the most constructive opposition. The results of elections showed that besides the PAP and RPA the rest of the parties won seats to the parliament exclusively by their sympathy to the government. And the first two parties were elected due to money and resources. This means that the government put the rest of the political parties in front of a dilemma – either appeal the vote results and boycott (despite the grounds of proof) or become conformists in the most broad sense of the word. The CEC data showed that the governmental has given marginal opportunities to all the big and small parties go to parliament. So the parties had either to abide with the voting results or appeal to courts and boycott the results. Having admitted the vote results, these parties get deprived from the moral and political right to argue about the vote results because despite their discontent of the number of seats in the parliament they accept their mandates with pleasure. In the event if they appeal the vote results these parties will have to refuse their seats in the parliament. We can confidently say that these parties won’t do so. By judging from yesterday’s behavior of the PA, Heritage and ARF (all of them have avoided to give any evaluation about elections in different formats), they all agreed with the rules of the game of the government and are merely stretching time to get more from the post-election deal. If not so, the mentioned parties should have already gathered in the city’s squares to raise their concerns about the outcome of elections. In a good meaning, all the 6 political parties that are to go to parliament are participants of the performance which the government staged and which deserved the positive evaluation of all the observation organizations. And this includes the poles, which the ones that are going to the parliament, are looking after. So the May 6 elections were really unprecedented but were non-political and undemocratic in the aspect of contents. The government was reproduced as “beautifully” as the statement of the opposition to change the government.
