Today is the 97 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This time it coincided with the pre-election campaign. Though political powers announced earlier that on this day they would not conduct any campaign, it is clear that their speeches will indirectly be connected with the upcoming elections. It is natural, because all the political powers are of the same opinion as regards to the international recognition of the Armenian genocide. Despite of the strategic differences, everybody strives for reaching international recognition of the Armenian genocide. All the political and state officials are going to speak about that, and it is one of the few questions everybody is unanimous. However, it is obvious that both the international recognition of the Armenian genocide and other essential issues (e.g. regulation of Karabakh conflict) will be solved only in case Armenia becomes a truly democratic and competitive country. When the issue is viewed from a different viewpoint, unfortunately, we have to state that all the political parties running in the elections are far from making Armenia a democratic and competitive country, despite of their wish to solve the issue of Armenian genocide. It concerns both the ruling and opposition parties, which try to first of all occupy seats in the Parliament and not make Armenia a developed and democratic country.
