How to give 43 billion “present”

28/02/2012

During these days the TV companies of Armenia are in competition to praise the government’s initiative to give out 43 billions “present”. During the government’s session on Thursday the government approved the “debts for property and land taxes”, amendment to the “law on taxes”, “law on property”, according to which the government proposes not to charge some part of the taxes for land and property that have failed to be paid, as well as the relative penalties. “This is an important legal initiative brought up by the RPA faction. Villagers always raise this issue during our visits to the regions also in consideration of the fact that the crisis has created additional difficulties for them in terms of tax payments. With this initiative the government is annulling 43 billion drams debt in the agriculture sector. I think this also contains a serious potential also in encouraging the economic growth as it will significantly reduce the tax load on agriculture,” said the prime-minister. These words that Tigran Sargsyan pronounced during the government’s session have been shown on V screen so much, that everyone has learnt them by heart. While the pro-government media is praising this decision as an important action on part of the government (or the RPA), pro-opposition media claimed that this was pre-election campaign without giving any details and comments. However, it is worth to go into details because this project contains so many interesting “nuances” that surprises us more and more. We will bring several facts about this initiative without and sentimental comments.
