“In 1988 there wasn’t such active political environment. The environmental protection movement resulted in politically active environment. The situation is different now in Armenia as there is both civic and political activism. I think this is a positive process as people want to protect their rights,” said Heritage faction member Armen Martirosyan in answer to our question whether this environmental protection action might result in a larger political movement like the one in 1988. When speaking of environmental protection movements the authorities say that those are supported by external powers because most of those organizations receive grants from external sources. “I think that the authorities are the one that are receiving the biggest number of grants with millions of dollars. Does this mean that they ruined the country due to those grants?” said the MP.
