After the period of Karabakh war the authorities of Karabakh took some activities concerning the social conditions of refugees.

Now refugees live in villages that are to be populated. They provide the refugees with apartments in these villages. Some people have a chance to barter their apartments, others have to buy apartments on their own. Now there are refugees that live in dormitories. The government of Karabakh has made a decision to construct buildings every year to solve this problem. In the beginning of 2005 about 30 families had to be provided with apartments. But according to the head of migration and refugees board of Karabakh (Pavel Najaryan) this construction program was failed because of some serious problems. “Now all problems are solved. The problem of territory for construction is also solved. Thirty houses will be built in Ajapnyak district in 2006. The families that live in the dormitory of the State University of Karabakh will be removed there next year”, – said Pavel Najaryan.

Currently the authorized bodies continue their work on registering refugees and giving them certificates. According to the refugees and migration board there are 3.500 families in the country. 1.000 of these families has already got their certificates. This year the government has started to give money to refugees. They will implement this program next year too. According to Mr. Najaryan till now only 130 families have got their money, but 270 families will get money till the end of this year. Generally they provide about 20 million dram for this program this year. This financial support has been given only to the citizens of Yerevan until now. We asked Mr. Najaryan when they were going to provide other refugees with financial support too. “Our colleagues cooperate with the local governments of communities and ask for information from them. I believe that all of them will get their financial support, especially due to the fact that we are going to enlarge this program and we intend to provide about 1.000-1.500 families with financial support next year”, – said Mr. Najaryan.
