During the joint press conference of the Presidents of Armenia and Lebanon the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated that during the private meeting they had adverted to the NKR conflict resolution as well. “Naturally, we have discussed the Nagorno Karabakh issue. I noted that Azerbaijan is trying mulishly to present in the Islamic circles the conflict in the light of religious disagreements. I believe those who are more or less familiar with the history of the Armenian people and causes of the conflict will never believe such nonsense. But at the same time, we consider such approach to be extremely dangerous because there are also circles unfamiliar with the details and such anti-Armenian propaganda can have certain negative impact. In this case too, the unbiased and fair stance of friendly countries is important since any impartiality can breach a fragile balance and endanger stability in the region. We stated that in the framework of our capabilities, Armenia and Lebanon have always been supporting each other in international structures on the issues of vital importance for both countries and we will continue to cooperate in the same spirit of mutual understanding and constructivism,” stated Sargsyan. Referring to the concern that Azerbaijan is always voicing the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh in Organization of Islamic Cooperation, trying to give a religious coloring to it, President of Lebanon stressed that he discussed the issue with the President Sargsyan. “Very often, the issue is being raised at the Organization of Islamic Conference and the position of Lebanon is the following: we have always been against for the OIC to adopt a decision criticizing Armenia or Karabakh,” President of Lebanon stressed. He also pointed out that the Minsk Group and the meetings of religious leaders or other formats must to utmost to settle the conflicts. “If the separating lines are eliminated, the threat of terrorism will be overcome as well,” Suleiman stressed.
