On October 23 the official visit of the RA President Serzh Sargsyan started to the Russian Federation, which will end today. Yesterday the meeting of the President took place with the RF President Dmitry Medvedev. Prior to that, the Armenian President participated in a number of meetings, met with rich Armenians living in Russia, students of the State university of Moscow, etc. In a word, everything was done to make the visit lavish and “inclusive” because the results of this meeting may be extremely important for the authorities and the state in general. Indeed, we mean the statements and speeches made during public meetings and events. First of all, by his visit to Russia Sargsyan aims to stop the ambiguity, which was recently exacerbated in light of the possible nomination of Vladimir Putin as a presidential candidate and the rumors about the possible return of the second President of Armenian Robert Kocharyan to big politics. There is a big possibility that Sargsyan will be able to solve this matter in Moscow and upon his return to Armenian finally the relations of the RPA with the Prosperous Armenia and the rumors of the return of Kocharyan to politics will be clarified. It is more complicated to know whether Serzh Sargsyan will be able to resolve another key issue, which not only has an internal governmental importance but a national one. We mean the recent foreign policy course of Armenia and the latter’s involvement in foreign policy projects of the previous one or two months. This demonstrated the evident support of the west to the political course of Sargsyan and was followed by famous events, which also caused the creation of certain opinions, according to which people have started to talk that maybe Armenia is being deflected from the “pro-Russian course.” If these opinions are even half true then the Armenian President Sargsyan should literally defend the Armenian national interest in front of the Russian officials. Sargsyan should explain what caused the limitation of the Russian course and mildly-said this is not an easy task. It means that at least during the informal part of the visit Sargsyan should be able to defend the dignity of Armenia and its people, which is being irreversibly trampled in front of the cameras by addressing so many words of gratitude to the Russian authorities. By the way, on the eve of official visit of the President the media sources, which cater the ideology of the Russian authorities were openly stating that the Armenian people should kneel down to thank the Russian people for having statehood in the current borders. And Ara Abrahamyan “bred” in Moscow allows himself to speak on behalf of Serzh Sargsyan about the issues, which have strategic importance for Armenia (during his interview to Russian media he mentioned that he had privately spoken with Serzh Sargsyan about the membership of Armenia to Eurasia Union and received a positive feedback from the President). The upcoming developments will show whether the Armenian authorities were able to withstand the Russian pressure and the attempts of humiliation or whether we were made clear by the Kremlin that the current attempts of humiliation are only the “beginning.” This may become clear during the next several hours. Today Serzh Sargsyan is due to meet with the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
