In several days after the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence a number of state officials again proved that for them the independence of their own country ends where the Russian interests start. Following the general meeting of United Russia party in Russia on Saturday the political followers of Kocharyan become very happy and activated. Many experts say that this decision in Moscow can be a “green light” for Robert Kocharyan to return to politics and run in the next presidential elections. They are doing it so easily as they are trying to convince that the replacement of Medvedev and Putin cannot have any significant influence on the political life in Armenia. The same thing is happening among the leaders of the ANC as well. In fact such discussion shows how poor the political culture is in Armenia, and it concerns all three presidents and their teams too. This logic means that during the next elections (both parliamentary and presidential) the people of Armenia will be again offered to make a choice between more or less pro-Russian powers, which may be the last step towards becoming Russia’s outpost in the region. However, in this context the recent activity of president Serzh Sargsyan may change the situation, if his meetings and the prize received in the US do not change anything in Armenia’s foreign policy significantly. It means that there may be a situation when Serzh Sargsyan may objectively act against the Russian expansion in Armenia. Or, the situation may change so that it may be the only way for keeping the power. Maybe such situations seem unrealistic, but are not excluded in consideration of changes that are happening not only in Russia. In processes that are happening out of Russia only Serzh Sargsyan is involved out of those three political poles.
