Often our politicians say that citizens of Azerbaijan and Armenia differ much from each other. Taking into account the fact that people can differ from each other, as well as nations can differ, for example we can say that citizens of Armenia and Norway differ much from each other. But it is difficult to understand why citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan or other CIS countries are different from each other.
In this period of hot political developments in Azerbaijan (pre-election period) more facts come up that prove that we don’t differ much from the Azeri. When we read articles of the press of Azerbaijan we wonder what makes Armenians differ from the Azeri and vice versa. The pre-election situation is the same, only the names and actions are different. One of the parliamentary candidates called the authorized bodies and said that the directors of the schools in his precinct pressured teachers and relatives of children to vote for the authorities. We have seen this in Armenia. Only the address of this application is different. In this case they are not so developed as we are. The poor guy doesn’t know that he doesn’t have to complain to the authorities for their own violations. It is a long time already that we know about this.
“Rey” monitoring center of Azerbaijan published the results of their public opinion polling. It turns out that about 83,4 % of those people would vote for Aliyev in case there were presidential elections at the end of October. At the same time according to them about 68,2 % of those people thought that the arrest of state officers was a good solution, and about 12 % of those people think that this was a very good solution. If we add these marks we will get the approximate mark of those people who were ready to vote for Aliyev. According to them about 60 % of those people were going to vote for the ruling “Eni Azerbaijan” political party on Sunday. This information was summed up with information that “Rey” agency was supported by their president.
We know what this means, don’t we? But what can we do? Sociology doesn’t belong to the nation. Painting doesn’t belong to the nation either and these mechanisms are applied both here and there.
They announce the American slogan like people in Armenia do: “Democracy, only democracy and nothing but democracy”. And the opposition, being encouraged by this slogan wants to boycott the elections which are conducted with arrests and other relative actions. But before doing this, they think for a while on what Americans understand by democracy. But Americans say “if…” In order to not affect their relations with Americans they throw the blame on Russians, but they forget about the fact that they are an independent country. This situation seems to be the same in Armenia too.
But the main common thing for both of these parties is the major problem facing these two countries: the conflict of Karabakh. But this is forgotten both in Armenia and in Azerbaijan during election periods. But this is the main reason that people say we are very different from each other.
