Factor of Free Democrats

10/09/2011

According to some experts’ evaluations the “Free Democrats” political party created recently on the disrupted basis of Leven Ter-Petrosyan’s faction has good credentials and has an intention to occupy a leading position in both internal and external politics. In conformity with the recently published information “The head of Armenian Division of the USA State Department Trina Sahan and the political officer of USA Embassy in Armenia Christopher Anderson had a meeting with the leaders of the “Free Democrats”. The inner political situation of Armenia, regional developments and international relations were discussed at the meeting” It is, no doubt, a very interesting fact, since it is difficult to imagine that the representatives of USA State Department would meet with a newly created party. Some philistines prefer to consider this party as a pro-American, which reflects their traditional provincial mentality. In case an American official sponsors any political party, it is an interesting circumstance and a positive factor in the Armenian politics in this case. However, USA needs collaborative relations not only with the political parties of Armenia, but is disappointed with other political groups, which are considered as pro-American according to some “Intellectual momentum”. The Americans comprehended long ago that “Armenian Congress” does not have political perspectives, is not adequate to the modern challenges and perceives in a far naive way the interests of the USA and the partners. The Americans are not interested at all in the so called pseudo peace-loving position of the ANC. They would prefer to see a more active Armenia in the international arena, which is developing as a militarized state and takes part in ensuring international security and not sparing it. Heritage party has a quite patriotic orientation. At the same time it remains as a not very large political club and its leaders behave as if they have been kids who hadn’t played much in their childhood. Americans need a partner in Armenia and not groups under anybody’s patronage having obscure prospects. The American Embassy hardly ever hopes that Free Democrats will acquire political power in the near future: which is not even required. Armenia needs a political power which would practice an adequate policy, will express certain rational and adaptive ideas and problems, will give a qualitative evaluation of the government and political leaders, and of course will outstand the political groups from marginal and so-called ridiculous situation. In other words, this party has to modernize the political lesson. Furthermore, the modern society has consumed the resources of modernization, having neutralized the provincialism and pseudo-traditionalism. In Armenia the actual opposition literally functions with inspiration in the absence of support from any social group and relies on uncategorized elements, which have been once conceived by the leaders of the opposition. To what extent is the foreign political influence applicable in Armenia? Here there is no need to pretend that this phenomenon is considered to be “criminal” in our country. It is not true. Everybody is subject to influence without exception. Democratic, authoritarian, totalitarian states have the objective and task to solve some their own problems in these conditions. However, up until now it was pleasure to follow who has offered Armenia “loyal politicians,” among whom we can observe clinically unhealthy persons. Thus, what is the point to beware from the U.S, its offerings and protection?
