With its expensiveness Yerevan occupies the 167th place on the list of 214 cities. This was brought up by Mercer research center, which periodically publicizes the list of the most expensive cities of the world. According to Mercer life in Yerevan is cheaper than in Baku (which ranks 48th on the list) but it’s more expensive than Tbilisi (191th place). The most expensive cities are Luanda (Angola), Tokyo (Japan) and Ndjamena (Chad). And the cheapest cities are La Pas (Bolivia), Managua (Nicaragua) and Karachi (Pakistan). Let us mention that last year Yerevan occupied the 170th place on this list. This year Yerevan went up by three grades this year. So according to Mercer it has become a more expensive city. By the way, some of the Armenian media outlets have been confused that the growing number means that the prices have become cheaper. As a result, the whole Internet media was full with articles that in Yerevan life had become cheaper. Let us only recall that even according to official statistics the 12-month inflation in our country is 9%.
