As a response to the expectations of many people yesterday the NA discussed the amnesty bill offered by the RA president Serzh Sargsyan. NA chairman Hovik Abrahamyan stated that most probably the decision of the amnesty will most probably take place during tomorrow’s NA extraordinary session. In reality, as a reason of delay they are mentioning the revision of the penal code, which, however, could have been done much sooner in an almost empty NA hall. Theoretically, indeed the political prisoners may be released even on Thursday. This was stated by the head of the NA legal affairs standing committee Davit Harutyunyan. But at this moment there is no guarantee that this process won’t be stretched. At any rate, this opinion is formed based on yesterday’s statement of Hovik Abrahamyan, who said that till September 21 there is still time for the amnesty because amnesty was declared for the 20th anniversary of independence.
