The prime-minister’s autumn

09/04/2011

Rumors are circulated that major changes will be made in the political sector of Armenia, which will be used for the main platform of the authorities during the upcoming parliamentary elections. According to these rumors, in May the prime-minister will resign. According to sources of information from the government, the decision has already been made. During a recent meeting with the government president Serzh Sargsyan openly blamed the prime-minister in the social situation in the country, inflation and other negative processes. The president even set a term and instructed the PM to take steps to resist the inflation till May. However everybody understands that this is a global problem connected with the system, specifically the existence of monopolies, the economic system, shady economy and privileged businesses, which are very hard to solve and even the government and all members of the government cannot solve this problem. According to these rumors, PM Tigran Sargsyan will resign in May and the PM’s position will be assigned to the incumbent speaker of the parliament Hovik Abrahamyan. Before February 17 this scenario seemed to be unrealistic because Tigran Sargsyan seemed to be an official who was separate from the authorities, however after the PA signed the coalition agreement, it became clear that this could happen anyway. According to the same source of information, the position of the parliament speaker will be given to the incumbent head of the RPA faction Galust Sahakyan. According to this information, this appointment is connected with the fact that it is the last year of this parliament and even this disproportional appointment cannot play a significant role in the upcoming elections.
