The media writes that yesterday the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan visited the US Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch at her residence and stayed there for more than one hour. Later this information was approved by the government and US Embassy by stating that this was one of the traditional meetings between the PM and US Ambassador. The details of the meeting have not been published. However, it is possible that this visit is connected with the Ambassador’s recent speech at the Yerevan State University, which caused hysteria both in the Armenian government and among “the Russian experts”. In fact the US Ambassador spoke about such truth that is based on the Constitution and is event openly spoken by the authorities. At the University the US Ambassador spoke about the civil society and said that it is important to make drastic changes for the purpose of activating democratic processes and political dialogue in Armenia. Meanwhile during the speech and after that the Ambassador cited the words of president Serzh Sargsyan and said, “The development of Armenia requires democratic improvement, activation of political dialogue and import of European standards into the state, civic and economic sectors”. In answer to questions following her speech the Ambassador said, “He is the president of the state, and you agree with this definition for sure”. The authorities and the Russian political circles have noticed a call for revolution in the speech of the US Ambassador and are actively taking steps against it. As the prime minister is known as a pro-Western official (nobody knows why), the authorities decided to send him to the Ambassador to talk about this situation. Even if the ‘intellectuals’ of the government find dangers in the words of the Ambassador, it is unacceptable to react to it at such level and way. This was taken so seriously that even the head of the governmental political party faction (Galust Sahakyan’s personality is not important because they do not relate to him seriously) announced the following: “What the Ambassador is saying should be refused by us”. The most surprising thing is the fact that even the authorities do not do anything when any Russian stands up and says that Armenia is an ‘outpost’, or even gives lessons to the city administration officials of Yerevan.
