“How can the world recognize the Republic of Karabagh’s independence when Armenia doesn’t even recognize it?” This question was given to Serj Sargsyan by the representative of the Turkish-American Association. In response to that question, the Minister of Defense replied: “That is considered to be a compromise from our part. We are also compromising when Armenia agrees to organize a second referendum in Karabagh. We all know what obstacles must be overcome in order to achieve independence and I can say that the citizens of Karabagh are going through that stage with dignity. After all, if nobody has recognized Karabagh as independent, then why did we start the Minsk group? Why are France, Russia and the U.S. involved in this issue? Why are the rest of the democratic structures always announcing that the Karabagh conflict essentially differs from that of Osetia, Abkhazia and other conflicts?”
