The inhabitants of Ashtarak town and the nearby villages assure that due to the annually growing unemployment and poverty the residents flee from the marz. According to their data, only from Ujan during 2010 40 families have migrated and settled down in France. “We don’t even mention how people run to Russia when there is an opportunity,” they say by assuring that the data of the ones, who have left for France, can be verified by the school registries. To our question as to whether this number actually reflects the actual picture the head of the migration service of the RA Territorial Administration Ministry Gagik Yeganyan wasn’t able to actually answer our question by mentioning that they don’t have a calculation of these data. “We only register the data of passenger flow,” he said. But he agreed that 40 is a pretty big number for a village.
