Yesterday Head of Central Electoral Commission Garegin Azaryan spoke about the local government elections of September 15 – October 23. He was happy to say that those elections were organized better than the previous ones and were democratic. Mr. Azaryan noted that one of the main developments was the fact that it had already been 2,5 years that people had forgotten about violations like filling up ballot boxes. Mr. Azaryan said: “The candidates have finally realized that the outcome of the elections doesn’t depend on whether or not they have a representative in the electoral commissions”. In regard to inaccuracies of voter lists G.Azaryan said that according to his information only 5,248 citizens had applied to court to recover their suffrage (0,5 % of voters). “I think these inaccuracies have been minimized as much as possible”, -said G. Azaryan. Mr. Azaryan didn’t agree with the opinion of journalists that the voters hadn’t applied to court because they were disappointed about the elections. By the way during the interview it turned out that Garegin Azaryan didn’t know anything about the incidents and conflicts during the election period. “Does anyone have any facts proving this? Has anyone taken photos of the incidents in Noubarashen and Echmiadzin? There was no incident during the election period. If there were these kinds of violations during the campaign we would have at least one application”, – said Geragin Azaryan acting as an ingenuous child.
