On December 23 Armenians will be able to witness an opera premiere. Famous Italian director Mario Corradi will stage Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece “Aida” in National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Alexander Spendiaryan. Corradi was specially invited by the Ministry of Culture of Armenia. As it’s known the opera theater of Armenia has been deprived from the artistic director and so the artistic issues of the theater and the task of supplementing the playlist is being conducted in a phase option. And so this is done by various structures without taking into account the actual needs of the structure. On the occasion of Aida opera premiere the director of the theater Kamo Hovhannisyan participated in a press conference, during which he had mentioned, “We have started something that is beyond our potential. Many theaters don’t risk staging Aida because the solo performers must have a very high level for that.” In order to participate in the premiere an opera singer Georgi Oniani will arrive from Munich. As it’s known our theater doesn’t have very well-prepared tenors. The director of the theater of opera considers it a common practice and adds that in the world there are a few tenors. In the future it is planned to use the potential of the Armenian tenors in the staging. Magda Mkrtchyan, Marine Dainyan, Lilit Soghomonyan and Anna Mnatsakanyan are willing to submit this role. After the staging of Aida, which is worth 50 million AMD, the theater is planning to stage new performances. They are mentioning Sayat-Nova opera and Romeo & Juliet ballet. According to Hovhannisyan 2011 will be a fertile year for the theater but next year as well the list of artistic directors will not be updated. He mentioned that for the moment there are no such talks. And maybe these talks won’t be there for several years.
