The international running marathon will take place in Yerevan and, according to preliminary data, first prize winner will receive $15,000 USD. The ”Ararat-Marathon” organization has organized this event. According to the representatives of the ”Ararat-Marathon”, it is possible to do the marathons in Armenia’s regions if the marathon in Yerevan reaches success. Anyone who wishes to participate in the ”Yerevan-Marathon” needs to pay a membership fee. It is not sure how much, but according to the organizers, people who register first may receive a discount compared to those who register at the last minute. It is said that there will be runners from different parts of the world. The organizers have not decided which streets of Yerevan the marathon will take place. The marathon is scheduled to last 6 hours and during that time there will be no public transportation. Only police officers and ambulance drivers will have the right to drive on the streets. In order to make sure who gets to the “Finish” line first, the runners will have special equipment attached to the soles of their sneakers which will be communicated to the computer. The “Yerevan-Marathon” is foreseen to take place in the months of September-October of 2006.
