“Year by year you become younger. Isn’t that right? After each year you gain more young years,” says a renowned Spanish singer Placido Domingo, 69. He is currently in Armenia. World renowned Spanish tenor Placido Domingo revealed the secret of his delicate voice at news conference in Yerevan. “All of my 128 opera roles are unique to me. I cannot single out any one of those,” the singer observed. Revealing the secret of his delicate voice, Domingo noted with a gentlemanlike refinement, ““Voice” is a feminine noun is Spanish, and therefore, must be treated with love and attention, like a woman. This is where the secret lies,” the tenor said. Domingo is not only a symbol of modern art but is a very venerable artist in the world. In his playlist there is a huge variety of tenor and baritone performances. He has lots of operas and musical and is considered a real symbol of opera art. Domingo leads the opera theaters of Los Angeles and Washington (but recently refused to prolong his contract with Washington Theater). He also organizes the competition of vocalists, admires and supports the Real Soccer team of Madrid, publishes books, opens restaurant and is actively involved in charity. Domingo has won various Grammy prizes. The last one was titled the “man of the year,” which was also granted to him due to the fact of him having a rich list of opera compositions as a Spanish singer. He is a record holder (he has over 128 compositions and he constantly releases new CDs). Domingo is a result of stage eternity. He had received a musical education since the young years of his career. He was surprisingly diligent. “The teacher, who gave lessons of music to my mother in Paris, was Armenian,” Domingo told a press conference in Yerevan. The singer added that he has many Armenian friends – Charles Aznavour, Levon Sayan and others. During the December 3 concert, Armenian musicians – opera singer, People’s Artist of Armenia Barsegh Tumanyan and singer Rosy Svazlian (soprano) – will take the stage with Domingo. “I and my group will spare no efforts so that the Armenian audience enjoys tomorrow’s concert,” Domingo said, adding that he will do his utmost for other renowned musicians’ arrival in Armenia to give concerts within the framework of Yerevan Perspectives Festival. Domingo is one of the world 3 tenors, who continues his career of a solo singer (Luciano Pavarotti died several years ago and Jose Careras stopped performing). Placido Domingo expressed gratitude for the reception and mentioned that it was a great honor for him to be in a country with a centuries-old history and traditions and perform in front of an Armenian audience. The famous trio of tenors when performing in various world stages (not only theaters but also stadium, squares and streets) was able to make a drastic step. Due to them the world accepted that opera is not only an elite art but also something that is totally understandable and accessible to average people with its passion, emotions, jokes and personages. It seems that due to their voices opera has become popular for millions of people. Placido Domingo’s visit was organized within the framework of the 11th "Yerevan Perspectives" international festival. With his participation the concert had been prepared for a long time. During 5 years organizer of the festival Sona Hovhannisyan has been negotiating with the extremely busy agents of the singer in order to bring the opera symbol to Armenia. It is known that during the recent years Domingo plays the role of a director of an orchestra as well. According to Hovhannisyan in order to receive Domingo as a singer in their countries often times the organizers have to wait for years because Domingo now sings very rarely. The 69-year-old legendary singer was received in Armenia by high-rank Armenian officials. He was granted with a medal of honor. On December 3 Domingo performed with a Portuguese soprano Anna Maria Martinez, American-Armenian Rozi Svazyan, bass Barsegh Tumanyan and with Paros choir. When meeting with journalists Domingo told that his acquaintance with Armenia has started long before. As a message he advised the Armenians find harmony in music. Domingo is sure that being born in the era of romanticism the opera art should take benefit of modern technologies. He always uses the benefits of recording, staging, advertisement news and is able to make it massive due to his efforts and talents. Cities, ships, planes (there is even a type of rose) in the name of Domingo. It is a great honor to listen to him in Armenia.
