11 years later

11 years past since the tragic events of October 27 1999 but during this period not only the organizers of this crime have not been revealed but also the reasons of the indifference of the society around that have not been identified. Moreover, the October 27 gradually becomes a simple day of mourning in the society. But why hasn’t there been a public demand to reveal this crime. “The absence of the society’s demand doesn’t allow us overcome the complex of the consequences of the October 27 tragedy,” told our reporter the director of the Society against Terrorism NGO, spokesman of Vazgen Sargsyan in 1999 Tigran Hakobyan. “The first year activation of the society was basically emotional demand. A terrible thing had happened and the society was in shock, which was exaggerated 100 times due to the TV influence… But as we see the time has appeased the emotion and sentiments. Too bad the joint demand of revealing the cases didn’t substitute the emotion and we didn’t learn from the past mistakes. We ought to be able to assess the tragedy and learn from the mistakes. I don’t think an internal demand would be formed in a country, in where the country is governed only by external factors and this consolidates the nation.” And why did the reaction of the government was inadequate? As finally one of them was killed and at least the demand of maintaining the solidarity of protecting one of them should have prompted them to understand the whole meaning of the tragedy. As a response to this observation Tigran Hakobyan responded, “Who said the government didn’t draw conclusions? They add the number of their bodyguards, get armored vehicles, lift the gates of buildings and restrict the security system. Well, this can be said about the government. What about the hundreds of thousand RA citizens? How can they defend themselves? Here I have to express the following “heretic” thought. By our instincts we consider the Turkish slaughters absolute tragedy for us and the living under their rule and the Turkism in general. And this leads us to eternal comparisons and we realize that compared to the Turks any form of “ours,” “national,” (state, government, repressive system) is so much better and tolerable than living in the rule of the Turks. So what was October 27 compared to the Genocide and our sufferable centennial history? And that is the reason why we consider the blood spread by the Turk sort of blood which is from our species. But the blood spread by an Armenian is not so bad… This hindered us to understand what kind of calamity October 27 was for our nation.”
