Yesterday during the roundtable organized in the Caucasus Institute the head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies, an expert of regional security Richard Giragosyan stated that at present the Russian policy in the region is busy with the absence of the US policy. According to him currently Russia is very active in the region, the reason of which is the recede of the old competitors from the region. According to the expert the American policy has other priorities in the region. Yesterday Giragosyan released his report titled “New motives of Russian politics in the Caucasus: Threats and opportunities for the region.” During the presentation the Russian Ambassador to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko was also present. According to Giragosyan, the Russian politics is currently more realistic and active, the best evidence of that is the event of Kyrgyzstan, during which Russia preferred not to risk and mediate. “The Russian politics, which is striving for comfort, is based on the cooperation with the west in the region. The best example of that was the refusal to sell armaments to Iran,” he said. When alluding to the prolongation of the agreement of deployment of Russian military bases in Armenia Giragosyan said that it was a consequence of the incorrect policy of the RA government. “I have positive opinion about the Russian policy, which incurs from its interests. I just criticize the Armenian government from my aspect as the prolongation was a consequence of the incorrect policy of the RA government and a common vision,” said Giragosyan.
