Autumn sun

18/09/2010

These days the political powers of Armenia are in a preparation and waiting situation. Definitely both the government and opposition are waiting for the “hot autumn” in politics as during the past years, which possibly will slowly turn into a cold winter like it happened before too. In this semi-vacuum situation the society is again out of the game. When the opposition powers speak of launching a new wave of rallies, it is a good reason for many people to remember how the opposition voluntarily gave up on its opportunities and by changing the strategy without any objective justification made the scope of its loyalists and supporters narrower. The opposition people are so intelligent that they don’t speak loudly about the fact that these disappointed people are good for strengthening the authorities’ positions. From the government’s pole different messages are coming such as “the opposition is wasted”, “the opposition has cut deals with the government”, etc. The say the opposition is corrupt, does not act, etc. We wander what do the people complain of, what they expected and did not get. Did they want a revolution? It is almost impossible to do a revolution and change of the government through extraordinary elections. There are many reasons but the fact is that neither of the political powers wants change of the government at present. There is no better time for change of the government than March 1. People were ready to go anywhere they would be led to. However, nobody is ready to take on responsibility for that. Neither the government nor the opposition is ready for change of government. Neither the government nor the opposition wants any change. The government understands this very well and uses this fact for their purposes. Even though the events following the elections, increase of prices of products, lack of legal protection are good reasons for the society to stand up, the organizers of opposition rallies speak less about activities and more about the theory. People’s disappointment to both the government and the opposition has resulted in a situation when the society is not accepted as a factor. As a result, Armenia is setting foot in the fall, which can be hot, calm or velvet… What is more important, it can be without the participation of the society.
