While waiting for the final

18/07/2010

Only in one day the world will have a new champion – Spain and Holland. Who will be able to conquer the title, which the Dutch have been close two twice and Spain – never? The answers to all the questions will be there the upcoming Sunday. Prior to that it wouldn’t be too bad to speak about the history of the two teams.

Spain

No matter how surprising it would be but for this soccer super-state this is merely the first final. The previous best result of entering the semi-final was registered in 1950. Despite the fact that ever since the Spaniards have always been considered favorites they always failed to become world cup winners. This time everything is going to be different. They deserve the right to become winners.

Holland

This small country even with European standards is a real soccer giant. Unlike the opponent the Dutch have gained the world cup twice – in 1974 and 1978 and have twice lost to the host of the filed with a minimum score. The third try may be become victorious. The opponent is not the host of the field and the championship is being held in a neutral continent.

Opportunities

As a matter of fact in the final match two Dutch teams will be competing. At the first sight, this may seem odd but this is objective reality. During the past 30-32 years one of the main winners of Spain is Barcelona, which was coached by Rinus Mikhels, Johan Kroeff, Frank Raicard, Lui Van Gal. Shall we be surprised that Barcelona plays a totally Dutch soccer? If be careful when reviewing the team of Spain we will see that the core consists of the players, who play for Barcelona. Indeed they have very good qualities of soccer players. Let us not forget that they are the authors of total soccer. They demonstrate a high individual master class – Roben and Sneider are just splendid. So far Van Persi doesn’t justify the hopes but he needs to realize where he is and what for. The Dutch have given to the soccer history several glorious generations of soccer players and indeed deserve the title of the world champion. This generation will be out on the filed to make the dream of their predecessors come true. This is a serious argument. The Spaniards do not have such an argument. They can become a founder of glorious victory.

Possible heroes

In the Spanish team we may enumerate the key players. At any moment anybody can shoot just like Puyol in the semi-final match. Indeed the goal protectors of the Dutch team will focus on Vilian but he is not the only headache. Tores may also say his decisive word – the most unjustified expectation of this world cup. The main hope of the Dutch is indeed Arien Roben, who with Sneider has become the imperceptible but true hero of this world cup. But the Dutch are first of all strong with their collective gaming.

Possible consequences

The victory of Holland will be worthy and logical because as already mentioned many generations have deserved that. Holland may become the fifth European team; the front of the uniforms of the players will decorate the champion’s gold star. The victory of Spain will be considered no less logical. During the past two years this team is just astounds everyone. But here are some underground gaps. The investment of the Catalonian Barcelona in the success of this team is hard not to notice and for the Catalonians soccer has been for a long time the only means to self-express politically. When General Franco would forbid them to speak in their language the Catalonians would go to the Barcelona stadium. That was the only place, where they could speak in their mother language without being afraid of Franco’s punishment. So the Spaniards may consider that they are the world champions and Catalonians may claim that without their investment this would be impossible. But in order to resolve this argument the teams of Spain and Holland will be given 90 minutes or 120. Let they prove.
