The trash in Nubarashen spreads

30/10/2005

The junkyard of the 50 year old, 20 hectare territory of Nubarashen has spread and reached 52 hectares. The territory belongs to the municipality. However, yesterday at noon, the garbage trucks did not throw a large quantity of trash in the 52 hectare territory, but rather, in the cemetery of Nubarashen which is located 700-800 meters away from the junkyard. The garbage truck workers have reasoned this by claiming that this was an order given by the mayor. According to them, the mayor had ordered them to throw the trash in that territory from now on.

As a matter of fact, the name “Central” community was written on the garbage trucks. The residents of Nubarashen have called the municipality in regard to this and complained, however, the municipality has responded by saying “Today is not the day for that.” According to the residents, the municipality plans on enlarging the junkyard territory, meanwhile the residents of both Nubarashen and Erebuni can no longer live with breathing the polluted air as a result of the trash. If they enlarge the junkyard, then the residents will be deprived of smelling fresh air. Head of the Communal Economy of the municipality Henrik Babayan affirmed that there had been no order by the municipality, much less from the mayor. He confirmed that the 52 hectare territory belongs to the municipality, but he did not know why the junk had been thrown outside of that area.
