Last week an open-air concert was organized in the Shahumyan square of Yerevan, which was organized to the initiative of the delegation of the European Union in Armenia. ”It is the first time that we are organizing an open-air concert dedicated to the Day of Europe; we want to be open for everyone,” said the head of the political, economic, media and information department of the EU delegation in Armenia Ono Simons. The Cats, Bambir, Emperay and Dogma groups, as well as singers Sona Shahgeldyan and Arame were invited to sing at the concert. This concert, which was dedicated to the Day of Europe and the 60th anniversary of the Schuman declaration, was sponsored by the European delegation in Armenia. The decision to celebrate the Day of Europe on May 9 was made in Milano in 1985 at a summit of the leaders of EU countries. Till now this day symbolizes the loyalty to the main values in the ground of the European Union. Schuman suggested to establish a super-national institution, which would control the production of coal and metal, which was so important for military production at that time. In other words, this is the beginning of the European Union. “The main goal of the European Union since the WWII has been to reconcile the enemies of European countries, specifically France and Germany, and prevent any future wars, as well as make peace,” said Ono Simons and added, “In 1957 the union had 6 members, and now it is enlarging and involves 27 countries. The economic policy is deemed the most important line but we are paying attention to different directions as well. We are working on a common policy jointly to protect the environment, trying to find solutions to raise the productivity, cooperating in the sector of internal affairs, etc.” According to Ono Simons, through the EU expertise, policy and support Armenia will develop rapidly through the time. “We are supporting the reforms, development of democracy, enlarging trade and making the relations between the EU and Armenia easier,” said the head of the economic, political and media department head of the EU delegation in Armenia and petitioned people to celebrate the European celebration.
