The EU president Mevlut Chavushoglu visited Yerevan. He met with president Serzh Sargsyan and representatives of the Armenian National Congress. The next day Chavushoglu was planning to meet with representatives of the parliamentary factions (besides the ARF). Meantime both the coalition factions and the Heritage faction highlighted the importance of talking to Chavushoglu about his initiative to establish a sub-commission in the EU and the importance of not letting that institution interfere with the issue of Karabakh. Certainly it is very important that the political powers of Armenia are concerned about that issue and they must do their best not to let it happen. The most important detail during Chavushoglu’s visit to Armenia was the fact that he is Turkish and the fact that he represents the EU was not a priority. It enables the authorities to openly refuse discussions on human rights and democracy with Chavushoglu. Indeed the ANC representatives raised this issue of human rights during the meeting with him. We will see his reaction during an interview to be given by him shortly.
