On May 9 the Armenians celebrate not only the 65th anniversary of the WW victory but the 18th anniversary of liberation of Shushi. This is definitely the most important victory in the new history of Armenia. As in the past years, this year the day of the liberation of Shushi is celebrated formally only. The official media will broadcast several programs about the celebration, the officials will speak bright speeches and will put flowers at the monuments of the heroes, and that’s all. It means that the celebration of the victory has not become a national celebration yet. One of the reasons is the fact that during the past years the government has humiliated the victory of Karabakh; since 1998 when Kocharyan took the power the authorities have implemented an official propaganda against the previous authorities and participant heroes of the liberation fight for Shushi. During the past two years even some of the war participants were arrested, which highlights the negligence of the authorities toward the victory. However the victory belongs to everyone and all our people, and the society should be proud of it not to let any official or authority use it for political purposes. Congratulations on the day of victory!
