Try to find the retraction

11/05/2010

It’s been two days since the Azerbaijani authorities are spreading sensational details on the negotiations of the NKR conflict resolution. In particular the deputy foreign affairs minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov has said "Armenia is demanding time from Azerbaijan to liberate Lachin and Kelbajar." "It is necessary to determine how the Azeri will return to Karabakh and specify the timeframe for liberation of Kelbajar and the northern section of Lachin. We also need to prescribe a document on the five regions and liberating the Lachin passage," said the Azeri deputy foreign affairs minister. The same statement was repeated by Novruz Mammadov, Chief of International Relations Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan. "Armenia had requested two weeks for the settlement of the conflict. Several months have passed, but there is no response from Armenia," Mammadov said. We may (more desirable) assume that these statements are far from reality. In that case the Armenian side should have officially retracted this information. But it’s been several days that the Armenian statesmen have been responding to these statements without denying those. "Azerbaijan can ask Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to discuss issues of mutual interest when Azerbaijan will be ready to return the occupied regions of Nagorno-Karabakh, recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and free itself from the Middle Age mindset and working style," announced yesterday Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Shavarsh Kocharyan in response to his Azeri counterpart’s statements. "The posture of Karabakhi people is the most important in the Karabakh conflict settlement. Karabakh expressed its stance through the referendum of 1991. Armenia has seconded and will second this stance. Azerbaijan is simply wasting time. Sooner or later they will have to take into account the wish of Karabakhi people," Tigran Balayan, a spokesman for the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday commenting on an Azerbaijani official’s statement. The statements of the Azerbaijani statesmen are not militaristic threats but concrete details relating to the negotiation process. But the official response of the RA politicians contains everything else but no concrete denial of the spread information. In this case there are two options left. Either Armenia really asked for some time to remove the Armenian troops from Lachin and Kelbajar or the Armenian statesmen are so untalented to be able to refute this information. Of course the second option is more preferable.
