Keep silence for commemoration after the noise of one year

29/04/2010

One year ago the football diplomacy was launched officially, and the official end was announced yesterday. Today Armenia is commemorating the 95th year of the genocide in the same manner as during the past years. The only difference is that the youth of the ARF party burnt not only the flag of Turkey, but the pictures of Gull and Erdoghan as well. The problem is not the failure or success of this policy, but the fact that even after the intensive discussions of one year the authorities did not change their approach to the issue. As during the past years, this year the officials are making different announcements and expecting that Obama will pronounce the word genocide. Did he do that? What is the next step of the Armenian government? No one knows the answer of this question, even the authorities don’t know what they are going to do if unexpectedly Obama pronounces another word in his speech. Even upon entering into this diplomatic game with Turkey the Armenian government did not know clearly what the purpose and their goal was, and what would be the benefit of the Republic of Armenia besides the noise in the international community. Notwithstanding anything the biggest respect we can give to the victims of the Genocide is commemorating them by keeping silence for one minute.
