Yesterday in Sochi the meeting of the Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia took place around the resolution of the NKR conflict. The meeting took place in the Sochi residence of the Russian President. The meeting also hosted the foreign affairs ministers of the three countries. According to the official press release after the meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, the three Presidents continued the meeting in an unofficial environment. They all had dinner together. Yesterday by the end of the day the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan separately met with the co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group at the Sochi airport. As a result of yesterday’s meeting no document was signed. Only the further developments will show whether this is good or bad. Let us only remember that only during the last week many predictions were heard that a document would be signed between the parties in Sochi. Only the statement of the foreign affairs minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov implies certain information. “The conversation was useful,” Lavrov told journalists. “The participants discussed the concrete proposals that were presented by the co-chairs. There is a common understanding – and everybody confirmed that – on the document’s preamble.” “Today the main result was that although some parts of the document are not agreed on by the parties, the parties will prepare their own concrete ideas and formulations that would be added to the text. We are confident that this will help the co-chairs in their further work,” he said. Lavrov refused to elaborate on the understandings and remaining sticking points. “This is a subject of negotiations between the parties,” he explained.
