The presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia will have a meeting in Sochi on Monday, during which it is not excluded that a document may be signed. While the Armenian party is discussing the details of the break in the Armenian-Turkish relations, new processes are happening to the Azerbaijani-Russian relations which may have a direct influence on the settlement of Karabakh conflict. Specifically, the Russian Gazprom company has made an announcement stating that in 2011 Russia intends to double the capacity of the natural gas import from Azerbaijan. The heads of the Russian Gazprom and the Azeri state oil company reached an agreement on doubling the import capacity during a meeting on Friday in Moscow. Instead of the planned 500 million cubic meter of gas Russia will buy one billion cubic meter this year, and two billion cubic meter of gas next year. Certainly this is an opportunity for Russia to fail the Nabucco project. As for Azerbaijan, certainly the Azeri party has not enlarged the gas export market but sold the tool of failing the Nabucco to Russia. It is not excluded that the price of the deal may become clear after the presidents’ meetings in Sochi on January 25.
