The values are the same as the values in our society, but the problem is that in the practical life of this society those values are not used or applied. “I think that we are dealing with those values for minimum 2000 years. It is another issue how these values are estimated in our country. I think the importance of the values is the not the fact of being European but the real content. Our society has a problem of prioritizing values and orienting to the right direction. The European values are the ones that are considered to be the best in our society now, but I think these things don’t work here,” says Mrs. Kharatyan, “The problem is that the government and parliament, which have officially adopted these values, in fact don’t use and are not loyal to them. If these values are formally adopted but failed to be used, they become anti-values. When such values are introduced in the society this way, the society does not trust much. Even the issue of the right for free choice of religion is discussed in the society as a threat resulting in separation of the society. Instead of that the society does not discuss the social polarization, casino culture, which are real threats to the unity of the society. Have you ever seen these issues discussed from the point of view of ethnic politics?” asked Mrs. Kharatyan.
The latter believes the application of and use of these values should be directed by state leaders. “I strongly believe it is one of the best achievements of the civic consciousness and rule, the estimation of which is done in the environment of the authorities or the current elite, the people who have the main role in the society. And they are spreading these values in the other sectors of the society as well. There are numerous researches and other works concerning this topic. In colonial countries the ruling elite is the one to decide and direct the culture, language and religion of the given country. If the authorities don’t apply these values and norms in the society, they will not become a value in the society. I strongly believe the authorities are boycotting these values, thus creating a mess in the society and people don’t know what these values are. These are simple values and people don’t have to go too far to understand them. These are the values of equity, dignity, law, honesty and morality,” says H.Kharatyan.
