Turkish president Abdullah Gull has called on foreign scientists to be involved in the commission of historians envisaged by the protocols to be signed between Turkey and Armenia. “There are different allegations about what happened one hundred years ago. It is clear that people who don’t know what happened, where and how, cannot make a decision concerning that issue. We hope historians and archive experts will examine the issue and we will be ready to accept the conclusion of the commission,” said the Turkish president to France Press news agency. “In order to show that we are honest we have also said that if historians of other countries, for example France, are interested in this issue they may be involved in this work too and their involvement will be appreciated,” said the Turkish president on the threshold of his visit to France. Gull says the fact of overcoming the historic insult and enmity of many years between Armenia and Turkey is one of the first important steps. “If we continue living with the problems of the past now too, we will poison our future,” said Gull and called on the interested parties to present the history in a balanced manner. “Don’t forget that we have suffered much too in the four corners of the world, in the Baltic region and Caucasus. Millions of people had to migrate from the Baltic region, Middle East and Caucasus to Turkey and half of them were killed and died on the way,” said the president of Turkey and tried to take the role of the victim.
