According to the official information posted on the official website of the US State Department US Assistant Secretary of State Philip Gordon by summarizing the results of the meetings with the foreign affairs ministers of Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan also shared her views on the status of Turkey-Armenia relations with the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton. He reconfirmed the support of the US in regard of the protocols on Armenia-Turkey relations. “This is a complicated process, which faces political reluctance on part of both of the sides. And when we are saying that it should be completed within reasonable period of time is that we wish to see results besides the process. And as you know the government has for a long time insisted on excluding pre-conditions during the normalization of relations with Turkey. It is their opinion and we share it,” said the US Assistant Secretary. When responding to the question whether the words “without pre-conditions” means that Armenia do not bring up the issue of the Genocide as a precondition Gordon said that without preconditions means the absence of pre-conditions from both sides. “There are many issues to connect to this process however in our opinion the process of improving relations is very valuable and shouldn’t be linked with other issues. This process should move forward,” said Philip Gordon. He also added that Armenia without am open border with Turkey is isolated. “We witnessed this during the Russian-Georgian war. And the establishment of friendly relations with Turkey may play a historical role, which will be profitable for both of the sides. It will also develop trade relations between the two countries.” To the question whether the normalization of the Turkey-Armenia relations wouldn’t affect the NKR conflict resolution Gordon said, “We have said this numerously and I am repeating once again there is no connection between these two issues and there can be no word about the pre-conditions.”
