Ancient and Modern Italy

What’s born in Italy soon becomes classical and leaves its trace for others to come. The Armenian-Italian days in Armenia have begun. There are many Italian programs and they are all profound. The events are sponsored by the patronage of both presidents of Armenia and Italy and present the richness of all fields of art. The music, fine arts, cinema, literature as well as conferences serve as a way of getting acquainted with ancient and modern day Italy. One of the first events was the exhibition of samples found in the museum located in St. Ghazar of Venetia.

The event was organized by the Mkhitarian Union and the samples were shown at the National Museum of Armenia. The showing of films by Paolo Tavianiner, the opera and other events followed the exhibition. If we don’t go to the opera, the opera comes to us. We only know the “Barber of Seville” by Gioachino Rossini. We can listen to other operas and participate in the Pezaro festival during the one month culture days of Italy. The opera festival which takes place on the Italian small coast located in the city of Pezaro plays a major role in European cultural life.

Gioachino Rossini was born in Italy and he has left something in every trace. Almost every site is named after him, even the opera festival. By being very expensive and conservative, the opera rarely allows anything new. Italy had organized a very unusual and interesting event yesterday at the “Yerevan” hotel in order to better acquaint the people with opera and to reveal the secrets about what goes on backstage. Photographs, stage uniforms which had been sewn during the course of 25 years were being shown at the event. Rossini’s festival has existed for 25 years. The mayor of Pezaro and president of the festival fund Luka Cherisholi were present at the fashion show. Luka Cherisholi said that this type of unusual show can attract a lot of people’s attention and make them want to listen to opera, just like one wants to see the whole menu after eating one meal.

“It seems as if the hall at the “Yerevan” hotel was built especially for our clothes,” said mayor of Pezaro jokingly. The unusual way of joking and presenting opera break down the “elite” stereotype for this genre and make a lot of people actually want to listen to opera.

There will be a conference about Rossini’s long lost opera called “Drama towards Reymes” today at the Yerevan State Conservatory. Creative director of the Pezaro festval Alberto Zedda will be present. The artists from “Rossini’s academy” of Pezaro will present parts of the opera “Drama towards Reymes”. Showing the entire opera still remains an issue. Italians believe that Rossini is very much like Armenians-ancient and modern at the same time.
