Yesterday at 8:30p.m. MP Khachatur Sukiasyan was released from the cells of the National Security Service. Sukiasyan’s release was a surprise for everyone because people were expecting that the National Security service would send a petition to the Special Investigation department to adopt a decision to keep Sukiasyan in cells as the form of punishment. An official statement was released yesterday, which reads the following: “The Security Services discussed the issue of arresting Sukiasyan as the form of punishment and in consideration of the fact that the MP, who had been under search since March 5, had surrendered voluntarily, a decision was made to release him based on a signature not to leave from the country”. The decision to release Sukiasyan was a surprise even for the law-enforcement bodies because one day before that the SID investigator Vahagn Harutyunyan said that they were going to apply to the court for a decision to keep Sukiasyan in cells. Yesterday we asked a number of MPs to comment on Sukiasyan’s case but they refused to speak and say anything. Among such MPs there were people who used to be in good relations with Sukiasyan when he was not in trouble yet. They refused to answer the question whether they would collect signatures to release Sukiasyan or no. However if they knew that the MP would be set free, they would be happy to speak. Now the most important thing is that he is free. He did not make any announcements or statements yesterday and definitely will organize a press-conference today.
