European Parliament

The European Parliament was established in the beginning of 1957. In the beginning the members were appointed by the EU member countries. Since 1979 the members of the European parliament are elected by the EU member states. It is worth mentioning that the higher voter turnout was registered during the first election with 69% of voter turnout level. The European Parliament has 736 MPs. Each country can have a fixed number of mandates depending on the population number. Germany has the biggest representation in the parliament with 99 and Malta has the lowest representation number with 9 MPs.
