Crime in Noubarashen junkyard

This is how it happened: during the graduating parties much chocolate was imported in Armenia. Armenians were not informed whether this chocolate was imported by a company or by an individual. And as we all know, most of the “Grand Candy” production has high demand in Armenia. The owner of Grand Candy Company Hrant Vardanyan worried about this import, because this chocolate was sold at low prices and that could affect his business. During the graduation parties, people buy much chocolate, because they usually eat sweets at the parties. According to our sources, H.Vrdanyan prevents the import of chocolate in big quantities. According to our information this imported chocolate is not sold in Armenia and is brought to Noubarashen junkyard. Tons of the chocolate are not burnt here. With the purpose of broadcasting this incident of 2004, we talked to some citizens of Noubarashen. According to some of them, the organizers of this crime even intended to sell that chocolate after the graduation parties (it had been dug in the ground). The employees of Noubarashen junkyard dug the ground with the order given by their director and placed the boxes of chocolate in the ground. Usually there are a lot of people in Noubarashen junkyard. They usually come here to collect metal, bottles or other useful things. That day some people, who were there, witnessed them putting those boxes of chocolate in a big hole. There were some citizens of Noubarashen there at that moment and they witnessed people doing this, and then told their neighbors about it after going home. Some citizens of Noubarashen went to the junkyard, pretended that they wanted to collect bottle, then dug the ground and took chocolate out of it. Some people even drove their cars to carry that chocolate. They took chocolate with boxes. They also treated their neighbors with chocolate.

Garnik died under ground and junk

The same day the friends of Garnik offered him to take some tools and go dig the chocolate out of the ground. Although he was suspicious about that idea, he agreed to go there. The same day Garnik and his friend from Artashat went to the junkyard at 12:00. At the entrance of the junkyard someone approached them and said that he was the son of the director. This boy told them that they were not allowed to take chocolate because it had been spoiled. At the same time Garnik saw people carrying boxes of chocolate to that boy’s car. He realized that the son of the director had cheated him. Not paying attention to this, Garnik entered the junkyard and started to dig the ground together with the other people there. According to some witnesses there were about 70-80 people there: from Noubarashen, Ararat and Yerevan. Garnik dug the ground, saw the boxes of chocolate and jumped in the hole. He was taking the boxes out and giving them to his friend, who was standing on top of the hole. At nights it is very dark in Noubarashen junkyard and there is no building in the surrounding areas. And suddenly the ground under Garnik’s legs moved, he fell back and the ground moved down the hole. Garnik was left under ground and junk. His friend was far from him at that moment and didn’t know about that. People started to scream that there is someone under the junk, but it was too dark and they couldn’t find out who and where he was. Being confused by the noise of those people Garnik’s brother, who was there too, hurried to help him, but he didn’t know that that person was his brother. “When people started to scream that there is someone under the ground, everyone started to run away. You can imagine that noise in darkness. Everyone was running out of the junkyard, but I told my friends that I was going to help that person and hurried to reach the hole. But I didn’t think that he was my brother. I run there and saw two legs. I tried to pull his legs out, and after I had already taken him out of the ground I saw that he was my brother. My friend and I were confused, I told him to press the chest and I would help him breath. We did that, but couldn’t help him. Then I understood, that he had died”,-said Samuel, the brother of Garnik.

Heart pain from fear

Garnik’s relatives were told in the dissector that his heart had stopped functioning due to the fear that he had. Garnik’s brother didn’t want to speak about this, he was sorry that this happened to this brother. “I am even ashamed. We lived in Sovetashen for years, but we had never visited that place. I don’t know how it happened. I don’t know what to say. Garnik was a very honest person, he wasn’t married, and he was too young. I don’t know what to say…”-said Garnik’s brother. Their neighbors say that Garnik was a constructor and had helped everyone in their district.
We tried to find out what kind of facts the prosecutor’s office had found concerning this case. They informed us that they had finished their investigation and that the case had been closed. The investigator responsible for this case was Karen Torosyan, who was on vacation during that period for one month. The case had been closed, but Garnik’s brother hadn’t been asked to go the prosecutor’s office and hadn’t been questioned. We asked the customs state office to inform us about the import of the chocolate. They told us that they couldn’t inform us the name of the company or the person who had imported the chocolate. Anyway, this is very suspicious, because if the chocolate was considered as unusable by the customs office, why did they dig the chocolate underground instead of annihilating it?
