“The outcome of Yerevan city council elections proved that the Armenian National Congress as a political force is not strong enough and doesn’t enjoy the trust of our population,” “The ANC didn’t pass the test of claiming to be the only oppositional force in Armenia.” These statements belong not to let’s say the chairman of the RPA parliamentary faction Galust Sahakyan or chairman of the Legal State party Artur Baghdasaryan but to the member of the Heritage party Zaruhi Postanjyan, whose party up until yesterday used to play the position of an opposition force. The latter and the chairman of the Heritage faction Armen Martirosyan yesterday made such statements about the ANC that can easily equal the role of Aharon Adibekyan. However, in this case the problem is not with the mentioned members of the Heritage, who have really supported the ANC during their past year activity. The problem is the motive, which made the Heritage make such a sensational statement and literally change their position by 360 degrees within a day. As a matter of fact, this “reverse,” which seems absurd at first sight, can only have one logical explanation. Most probably the Heritage was constrained to make such a statement from the west. Perhaps the US got really worried about the statement of Levon Ter-Petrosyan made on June 1 rally, where he said, “None of the documents signed by Serzh Sargsyan has any legal power for us especially if this document relates to Armenian-Turkish relations.” This means that in the context of intensive Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations the opposition will not agree with that and this means that the majority of the Armenian population cannot agree with that. This means that the above-mentioned statement of Ter-Petrosyan damages the current status of the NKR negotiations. It is understandable that the US that is most interested in this process, should contravene Ter-Petrosyan’s approach. Thus they are trying to belie the ANC in the eyes of the population. It is understandable that all this is not pleasant for the Heritage members either, who will probably state that the media is casting shadow on their reputation. However this behavior of the Heritage doesn’t fit in this logic even at the greatest desire.
