After the shameful May 31 elections yesterday perhaps took place the only political event, which will surely affect the further political developments of the country. During yesterday’s rally of the ANC the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan stated that the ANC will permanently boycott Yerevan’s newly elected municipal council and never engage in dialogue with the authorities. “With these elections Serzh Sargsyan has closed the path of dialogue and the establishment of national solidarity. The Armenian National Congress announces that it does not accept the results of the May 31 elections for Council and will not tolerate the regime’s ongoing actions aimed at breaching the will of the people. The Congress will dispute the results of the elections and will continue its struggle to place the demand for head of the current regime Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation as its main issue," Ter-Petrosyan declared. “By these elections Sargsyan burned all the bridges of solidarity. We have numerously said that in the event of the release of political prisoners and the conduct of free and fair elections we’d be willing to sit and talk with the government and Sargsyan…” This means that only the RPA and Prosperous Armenia will be included in the Council of Elders of Yerevan as according to the law if the party refuses the mandates then the mandates stay vacant. Reminder: Preliminary official vote results released by the CEC showed President Serzh Sargsyan’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) cruising to a landslide victory in the polls with 47.4 percent of the vote. The Prosperous Armenia gained 22.71% of votes. ANC came in a distant third with only 17.4 percent.
