For the first time in the history of Armenia the citizens of Yerevan will elect the city council and through this city council will indirectly elect the mayor of Yerevan. In the recent times, especially in the pre-election campaign period the political parties running for the elections numerously admitted that these elections are not of local significance but as important as the national elections. The reason why these elections are so important is not only due to the fact that Yerevan is going to have a new model of administration but also due to the fact that it is the first time after the recent presidential election and deadly clashes of March 1 such important elections are held. In other words, the primary goal of these elections is to prevent the violations, because of which the tragedy of March 1 happened. Certainly first of all it is the responsibility of the government. Each of us can help to prevent electoral violations simply by visiting polling stations and voting. This seems impossible but on the other hand neither criminal structures nor bribe can ever win the free will of people. In a word, everyone should go to polling stations today.
