A lot of people were waiting for today to see whether president Serzh Sargsyan would grant amnesty. Especially last week there were rumors in the government that on the Independence Day the president would issue a decree on granting amnesty. Even rumors said that in prisons the officials were preparing the documents of the people subject to amnesty. Today we will find out whether this information is true or it is another cheap pre-election trick because usually such amnesty is declared on holidays and is dedicated to the specific day. As of yesterday there was no clear information about the amnesty but the only source of information which inspires hope that there may be amnesty is the following sentence in Serzh Sargsyan’s speech to be pronounced on the Independence Day: “Only the events of March 1 are enough to prove that we still have a lot to do to learn lessons from the past. These events, which were a tragedy for all of us, came to prove that nowadays there may be situations when no one can win… There is a moment when one should stop. There is a moment when everything should start from a new page. This is what the lessons learnt from the past want from us and what the future of our country wants from us.”
